The North Florida Springs Alliance (NFSA) is a Citizen Support Organization (CSO) for five state parks in north Florida. CSOs were created by Florida legislation as non-profit cooperatives with the state to conduct programs and activities to better our parks. These groups provide voluntary support by educating visitors, hosting events and raising funds for specific park improvement projects. The NFSA plays a vital role in supporting Florida’s state parks, ensuring that our natural, cultural and historical resources are protected for future generations.
Parks of the North Florida Springs Alliance
Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park
This park is located in the heart of the Suwannee River valley, home to some of the most beautiful springs in the state. Visitors will enjoy hiking the award-winning interpretive trail, birding and swimming in the springs. Cave divers come from all over the world to dive the extensive cave system beneath the park. You don’t want to miss this off-the-beaten path gem!
Madison Blue Springs State Park
In 2015, Madison Blue Springs was voted the “Best Swimming Hole” in America by USA Today. Thirty-eight acres of mixed hardwoods and pines make a picturesque backdrop for visitors to picnic, swim, snorkel or launch canoes and kayaks on the Withlacoochee River. A challenging underwater cave system is a popular destination for cave divers.
Troy Spring State Park
Troy Springs has a rich and colorful history. One of the most colorful characters in local lore was steamboat Captain James M. Tucker, who ran a ship called Madison. He ordered her sunk to keep her out of Union hands during the Civil War. The ribs of the ship are still visible in the spring run. The park is popular for swimming, snorkeling and open-water diving.
Lafayette Blue Springs State Park
This beautiful wooded north Florida park offers peace and quiet along the unspoiled banks of the Suwannee River. Visitors can stay in one of five well-outfitted rental cabins or in the full-service campground in the park. New boardwalks have improved access to the spring and a 2015 land purchase has added access to more of the Green Sink cave system.
Suwannee River State Park
Stand on a high overlook and see where the Withlacoochee River meets the historic Suwannee River. Spanish explorers, industrious settlers and Confederate soldiers all left their footprints along the banks of these two rivers. Visitors can explore a Confederate earthwork fort, miles of hiking trails, Lime Sink Run and Columbus Cemetery – the only remaining evidence of a once-thriving river town.
